Hi maryrose, we can help you better if your question is more specific. Anyway, here is my 5 cents to it:

  • Universal set is denoted as U
  • Finite Sets: example is {1,2,3}. It has definite number of terms.
  • Infinite Sets: example is {1,2,3...}. It contains indefinite number of terms represented by ellipsis.
  • Null Set or Empty set: It is represented by empty curl brackets { } with nothing inside
  • Unit Sets: It contains one element {1}.
